Toledo, will you read this and write something too? I would like a story.

A lot seems to have changed since we started this back in 2005. Has it really been that long?

i'm liberal white trash apparently...
some recent happenings:
1.) i found my 14 year old brother's blog : yomomma900 on xanga. hilarious. and scary. the most recent entry listed the reasons why he hates me. i'm an annoying liberal piece of white trash (note that we grew up in the same house in chicago; white trash is hardly the label i would ascribe to myself or the rest of my family). how should i suffer for such an offense? well he says that i should rot in hell. nuf said. the rest of his blog goes on and on about how orthodox christianity is the only path to true righteousness. he and his church-camp-long-distance girlfriend comment on each others pages to encourage such radical adolescent religiosity. hilarious. just goes to show that at 14 your world is limited the scope of your parents'.
2.) i dropped a quart of yogurt on my mom's cream colored rug yesterday. i didn't know whether to laugh or cry. so i laughed. a whoooole lot.
3.) i haven't worked in a week. and then i worked for three hours. now that's gonna be one fat check. right.
4.) newberry in t-minus 6 days. sweeeeeeet. get me out of this house of crazies!

jobs with benefits ask ridiculous questions
the new endeavor is not to just find a job, but a job with benefits like health insurance. so, i applied to borders online yesterday. after filling out job history and education, i had to answer all of these questions where you say strongly agree, agree, disagree, or strongly disagree to these statements. 37 pages with five questions on each page! example: I swear when I argue. what the fuck? what kind of statement is that? doesn't it matter who i am arguing with? anyway, the bullshit has thickened, and i'm thinking of moving to new zealand.

resumes and cover letters can eat a dick
so, toledo wants to know about the job search...it frickin' sucks. i've been checking out the jobs available at UW and i don't seem to be qualified for most of them. nobody is interested in hiring someone with just a bachelor's degree. anyway, i finally came across a listing for an outreach coordinator for the college of engineering. right up my alley. and they wanted someone with a BS in a science or BA in education. so, i actually fit that qualification. as for what else they wanted from the applicant...someone with teaching experience in grades K-12...i was a camp counselor for 6 years. does that count? what about being a tutor?
i decided to go ahead and apply. the worst that can happen is i don't get the job. now it was time to work on the resume, which hadn't been updated in over a year, and write a cover letter...something i had never done before.
RESUMES and COVER LETTERS CAN EAT A DICK!
this part completely sucked and frustrated the hell out of me. for three days i stared at my resume that was last updated in may 2004. i wanted to add some stuff to it, like being a TA, and doing the girls and women and science conference...but, there seemed to be no space on the page. that's when i sent the resume to the chopping block: my mother. she tore that shit apart. to begin with, she said size 10 font was not acceptable and that my margins were too small. well, the whole point of small font and small margins is so you can fit more onto one page. she made me change it, causing my resume to be way too long. deleted most of my volunteer activities, changed verbs, made sentences shorter, got rid of my skills section...and it was still two lines too long. then my sister saved the day. she called my mom and told her that one inch margins on each side is not necessary. why not try something like 0.7 inches? i knew that sibling would be useful someday...no seriously, she's great.
with the resume now in its final form, it was time to move onto the cover letter. i tried to sell myself to the best of my ability. we'll have to wait and see if anyone is buying.
with cover letter and resume completed and it reaching 2:00 pm on the day that my application was due...i raced downtown to the UW Engineering building. this was an adventure in itself. after entering the building, getting lost, and asking four people for directions, my application finally made it to its destination. now comes the waiting part...i have no clue when or if i will hear back anything about this job.
in the mean time, the dad is encouraging me to keep looking at the want ads in the paper. he said why not be a janitor or a nanny for a while? yes, father...after receiving a degree from a four year college, there is nothing more in this world that i would like to be than a janitor. but, who knows...it might be a good part time job...
